Editing
Looking at the conventions of most rock/metal genres their are two main styles of video with the rock having more of a performance themed video and metal having more of a storyline. As my song hits more of the metal genre I created a video with a storyline and added and intro and outro to the video. The song itself already had a music intro and the video had a black and white video clip to go with it. This introduction style is quite unusual however it is something I wanted to replicate in my own video. When editing this section I used sony vegas pro which allowed me to add a black and white filter to the beginning and ending. I used match on action shot and cross cutting when editing the nurse and envy parts together and speed up the footage of the hearts so that it fitted better to the music. Most rock/metal videos focus on the band or singer so the majority of my footage consisted of clips including the lead singer. Editing these parts were simple as all I had to do was trim down each section to lip sync it. The most difficult part was editing the scene where the lead roll carves out 'pride's' heart. This involved having to slow certain sections down and editing together different shots which involved a lot of fast cuts which is something consistent in metal videos. One convention I did decide to go against was having a title at the beginning. This is something you rarely see in rock and metal video however I felt like there needed to be something to link the intro with the main video especially as there was a silent break in the video before the music starts. I decided to use a photograph from when I was filming the scenes with the hearts and put the title of the song across it. This allowed my video to flow from introduction to the main video and link the two together.














Mise en scene
Locations and setting
One of the most common themes you find with the locations of rock/metal videos is darkness and derelict places which is something I bared in mind when location hunting. After doing a focus group and and interview with Dean Walpole I found one of the most common places people would expect a music video to be filmed in was in a derelict house or garage so I decided to film in an abandoned house, burnt down jeep and garage. I was also going to shoot some scenes in a burlesque club but due to limitations I couldn't do so. I believe I was successful in choosing the right locations to film in however after getting audience feedback from survey monkey I found out that my video could have been improved by having darker lighting as one of my scenes was filmed in broad day light. This is something I shall bare in mind for the future.




Cinematography
My music video targeted the typical conventions of rock cinematography. This involved a lot of close ups of the main singer. A common theme in metal videos is gore and this is something I included in my video with intertextuality. I decided to represent the seven deadly sins through the hearts of people who had committed them. I also shot a scene of the lead roll cutting out the heart of someone who had the sin of Pride. When filming these parts I used a variety of close ups, extreme close ups and mid shots. I used the extreme close ups to put emphasis on this scene and used the mid shots to create atmosphere.

Voyeurism

Voyeurism played a big part in my video as it is heavily related with rock and metal videos and also related to the lyrics of the song. It's hard to create a music video for a song titled Whore and not include voyeurism! Voyeurism is that act of looking which can include looking into the private life of the artist or representing them in a sexual manner. Due to the theme of the song I opted to represent the lead singer in a sexual manner which is something a lot of rock bands do, not only in their videos but also in their general band image, for example The Pretty Reckless. The way I used voyeurism was mainly through the mise en scene by choosing outfits for the lead roll that consisted of items like corsets and suspenders. As my intertextuality was the seven deadly sins I also used voyeurism by having the lead roll represent lust. The camera shots I used to portray this I used a variety of close ups to create intimacy with the artist and also used this to focus on the outfits for example the suspender shot at the beginning.


Representation
The biggest type of representation in rock/metal music videos is a dark, sexy and gore themes, any video that has women in it is usually accompanied by voyeurism and sex. There is also a lot of black, darkness and darked haired females in leather jackets for example Amy Lee or for an older example Joan Jett. When creating my music video I decided to stick to the main conventions of women is rock and metal a chose a roll that hair dark hair and dark make up and used her to represent sex/lust and also wrath. The darker side of metal also includes a lot of gore which is why I chose to include graphic scenes of a violent nature and used pigs hearts in jars to represent the humans hearts of the seven deadly sins.

Final digipak

This is my final digipak. I decided to use the same with thanks page and back cover from my first attempt but preferred the front cover from the second digipak so I have used that image with a clearer filter and added a parental advisory sticker. 

Second Trial

This is my second attempt, I have used some similar images but placed them differently and experimented more with the editing software adding different filters for a different vibe to the album. I switched the photo's between the with thanks page and back cover. I also took a screen grab from the video and used it for the front cover. I definitely think it is an improvement on the first album cover and will probably use that image in the final digipak.

Digipak Trial

This is my first attempt at creating a digipak and I have  used images from the photoshoot and the video and edited them using photoshop. The image in the bottom right hand corner is the front cover and the image to the left is the back cover. I have then created a 'with thanks page' which is in the bottom left hand corner. Above that is an image from the photoshoot I decided to include in the pack as most female fronted band include pictures of the singer to promote the bands image. To the right of that is where the CD will be placed and the last photo has the lyrics on.

Advertisment

Possible magazine advertisement 

I created a similar magazine advertisement to In This Moments advertisement. I used photoshop to crop myself out of the brick background and placed it on a dark background to create a minimalistic, eye catching advert. I then used a photo editor on my phone to blend the picture with the background by softening the outline. I then added the song title, band name and release date in a contrasting coloured font.

After experimenting more with different filters, fonts and photographs I have decided to use the above as my magazine advertisement.

Back cover

This is the edited photo I have decided to use for the back cover of my digipak. I have cropped the photo so that the lead artist is to one side of the picture so that I can put text on the right hand side. I used a filter to change the quality of the photo so that it now looks more rough and damaged, a technique I found on a few rock album covers. I also blurred the background and put a focus on the artist to emphasise her role as part of a female fronted band .
